Founded in 1522, Philipponnat is one of the oldest family-run Champagne Houses. Based in Mareuil-sur-Ay, at the heart of the historical Champagne region, it has been rooted for sixteen generations in the terroirs of Aÿ and the Grande Vallée de la Marne — the cradle of Pinot Noir, the signature grape of its style. Since 1935, the House has owned Clos des Goisses — the first single-vineyard plot to be vinified separately in Champagne. Philipponnat cultivates 20 hectares of Premier and Grand Cru vineyards with a meticulous, artisanal approach: manual harvests, exclusive use of first press juice, partial vinification in oak, carefully controlled malolactic fermentation depending on the vintage, and extended aging on lees.
Renowned for its precision, exacting standards, and independence, Philipponnat produces wines of character — combining intensity, purity, and mineral tension. A pioneer in sustainable viticulture, the House is certified High Environmental Value and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne, and remains committed to a responsible Champagne, true to its land and looking toward the future.
